Description:

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Residential Supervisor and the On-call Administrator (on weekends), and the general supervision of the Program Coordinator, is responsible for the care and training of assigned DD adults living in the unit.
Responsibilities:
1. During designated shift, the Residential Counselor is responsible for assuring that the following is maintained in the Unit.
a. The safety and health of the home meets the standards of the agency.
b. The home is consistently maintained with regard to its cleanliness and organization.
c. The clients are well cared for, dressed appropriately, properly groomed
d. The clients are living in a home-like environment.
e. The unit is always covered with staff.
2. Assures that the following are accomplished:
a. Any specific, additional duties are completed during the shift as requested by the Residential Supervisor,
b. All important information concerning clients, programs, appointments, problems, etc., are communicated to the next shift person and/or the supervisor (as applicable), orally and in writing, before going off duty; and
c. The activity schedule is followed as planned, unless prior authorization has been given by the on-call Administrator.
3. Is responsible for assuring that all consumer IPs and behavior programs (where applicable) are implemented, and that feedback is given to the Supervisor as to the effectiveness of programs, as needed.
4. Is responsible for assuring that any agency petty cash received is properly spent for its designated purpose only, as per the petty cash policy and procedure.
5. Assures that all clients in the Unit are medically cared for as follows:
a. Clients receiving medications prescribed by a physician, are properly medicated during the shift;
b. Medication documentation is accurate and complete;
c. Physician’s order forms are taken to all physicians seen by the client during the shift, and medications are reviewed and signed by the prescribing physician;
d. Any special medical condition or concern about each client is documented and the next shift and the supervisor are made aware of the information;
6. Assures that all interactions with clients are appropriate and therapeutic, in accordance with their programs and therapies, and protect them from any kind of harm.
7. Contacts appropriate administrative person (On-call on weekends or Program Coordinator during the week) anytime a client is having any problems that merit immediate intervention.
8. Continually refers to, and follows, agency Policies and Procedures manual.
9. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Valid CPR/ First Aid certificated
